On the main part of the capital, shown here, a robed Christ with a cruciform halo stands with his hands raised. He has a beard and a fine French mustache; his ear is large and deeply carved. Founded in the 6th century and rebuilt in the 12th century, the Basilica of St. Andoche is famed for its magnificent Romanesque capitals depicting biblical stories and medieval scenes.
