AMESBURY RECREATION ROAD SU 1541 11/60 Ham Hatches II Drowning sluices for water meadows on River Avon. Probably early C19. Limestone. Main river has seven piers approximately 3m long 30cm wide, chamfered at both ends, and splayed abutments, all with iron channel for sliding timber hatches. C20 concrete footway over. On north side, spillway to header channel with a further 3 hatches, and to south, a further spillway with two hatches, and original clapper stone footway over.
