Group of 3 Chest Tombs, 2 to Arnatt Family, in Churchyard of St Mary's, c. 15 M to E of N, Bampton

Group of 3 chest tombs, comprising: a) matching pair of tombs to Arnatt family of Lew, both of limestone, with moulded bases and cornice lids, shallow tops, simple pilasters, and moulded end panels. One has inscriptions to Jonathan Arnatt 1844 and Joseph Arnatt 1834. The other has inscriptions to Jonathan Arnatt 1799 and Elizabeth Arnatt 1779, with carved floral trails and lead lettering.

GV II Group of 3 chest tombs, comprising: a) matching pair of tombs to Arnatt family of Lew, both of limestone, with moulded bases and cornice lids, shallow tops, simple pilasters, and moulded end panels. One has inscriptions to Jonathan Arnatt 1844 and Joseph Arnatt 1834. The other has inscriptions to Jonathan Arnatt 1799 and Elizabeth Arnatt 1779, with carved floral trails and lead lettering. Tombs are surrounded by low stone base of former enclosure, the railings now missing. b) a late C18 tomb with illegible inscriptions. Of limestone ashlar with moulded cornice lid. North side has winged cherub head over inscription panel, and flanking panels with carved foliage scrolls. Later south panel with flanking guilloche ornament.
